About Our Neighbourhood Wardens

Our Neighbourhood Wardens play a vital role in supporting Pulborough and helping to create a safer, stronger and more connected community. Working closely with residents, local organisations and partner agencies, they provide a visible presence and act as a valuable link between the community and local services.

What Our Wardens Do

Our Wardens:

  • Support young people by encouraging and assisting with local activities and programmes.
  • Help vulnerable residents by reducing isolation and connecting people with appropriate support services.
  • Provide crime prevention advice and promote community safety.
  •  Maintain a visible, reassuring presence throughout the parish.
  • Act as the eyes and ears of the community, identifying concerns and helping to reduce the fear of crime.
  • Address environmental issues such as dog fouling, littering and anti-social behaviour.
  • Work alongside partner agencies to resolve local problems and improve community wellbeing.
  • Act as professional witnesses where appropriate, helping agencies address ongoing community concerns.
  • Build relationships with residents, businesses and community groups to strengthen local connections.

What Our Wardens Do Not Do

While our Wardens provide invaluable support to the community, there are limits to their role.

Our Wardens:

  • Are not a replacement for the police. Any crime should be reported directly to Sussex Police.
  • Are not an emergency service and should not be relied upon to respond to emergencies.
  • Do not provide a 24-hour service. Wardens work designated hours and are not on duty every day.
  • Do not provide personal care services. While they can signpost residents to appropriate support organisations, they cannot offer direct care.
  • Are not parking enforcement officers and do not have the authority to issue parking tickets or enforce parking restrictions

Supporting Our Wardens

Pulborough Parish Council fully supports our Neighbourhood Wardens and values the important contribution they make to our community.

Unfortunately, due to increasing pressures on public services, Wardens are often approached about issues that fall outside their remit. Whilst they will always do their best to assist residents or direct them to the appropriate organisation, they cannot resolve every issue directly.

The Parish Council will not tolerate any form of abuse, intimidation or harassment towards our Wardens. They work hard to support local residents, often in challenging circumstances, and deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect.

Through their dedication, professionalism and commitment, our Wardens continue to help make Pulborough a safer, friendlier and more connected place to live, work and visit.
