21/05/13 Bank holiday refuse and recycling collections
ACORN PLUS refuse and recycling collections in the Horsham District will continue as normal over the May bank holidays. From Tuesday 28 to Friday 31 May 2013, all domestic recycling and refuse will be collected from homes on the normal days. Horsham District Council’s Acorn Plus scheme collects recycling and refuse from Tuesdays to Fridays, which helps to avoid disruption to services around bank holidays. 20/05/13 Superfast Broadband
The Better Connected West Sussex Broadband project, a partnership between West Sussex County Council (WSCC) and British Telecom (BT) have announced that fibre broadband will be rolled out to around 98% of West Sussex homes and businesses within the next three years. 20/05/13 New Councillors
Mr Simon Strang and Mr Martin Dale were co-opted as Members of Pulborough Parish Council at the Annual Meeting of the Council, held last Thursday, 17th May 2013. Cllr Strang and Dale replace Alex Kipp and Diana Jones who resigned from the Council earlier in the year.

10/05/13 Post Office Update
At the Annual Parish Meeting last night, Caroline Hoare of Post Office Ltd was pleased to advise that Gatleys Pet Shop in Lower Street has been approved as the Post Office service provider for the village. No exact time frame can yet be given but as soon as a confirmed opening date is available, the statutory consultation will begin. Watch this space for further details.

10/05/13 Community Youth Worker
Liz Burt of Horsham Matters confirmed at the Annual Parish Meeting yesterday, that Daniel Jenkins has been appointed as the Community Youth Worker covering Pulborough and Billingshurst Parishes. Daniel will be starting in his new position in early June and there will be an opportunity for all those working in partnership with Daniel to meet him later in the summer.

29/04/13 Mobile Electrical Recycling
The “Don’t bin it, Bring it!” Chanctonbury Mobile Electrical Recycling Events are continuing for the rest of 2013. Viridor, who operate and manage the local Household Waste Recycling Site and Ford Materials Recycling Facility on behalf of West Sussex County Council have also been operating the trial Mobile Electrical Recycling Service across the Horsham District for West Sussex County Council.

The previous eight events in 2012 collected 18.12 tonnes of electrical and electronic appliances from Horsham District residents - this is the equivalent of 36,240 hairdryers or 10,659 power drills!

Funding has been secured and therefore Viridor have announced that these events will continue in Henfield, Pulborough, Steyning and Storrington during 2013 with the service operating in Pulborough Lower Street car park on Saturday 22nd June 2013 and Saturday 19th October 2013.

27/03/13 Changes to applying for concessionary travel
Residents who are applying for concessionary travel, such as bus passes or railcards, in the Horsham District from 1 April should be aware of changes to the administration of the service. As a result of these changes, Horsham District Council will no longer be the point of contact for new bus passes or railcards.For those residents who already have an older or disabled persons’ concessionary bus pass, no action is needed. Current bus passes will continue to be valid and will be renewed automatically.Those residents who require a new railcard or to renew an existing railcard will need to apply for a new one and should use the following contact details:

13/03/13 Changes to your garden waste collection
Resident in the Horsham District will be receiving a leaflet in the next few weeks with more information on how to join the new garden waste collection service. The new opt-in service will replace the current free service and anyone wishing to continue to have their garden waste bin emptied will need to sign up and pay £29 per year. There is also information on the garden waste collection scheme on Horsham District Council’s website as well as on the Council’s Facebook page (search Horsham District Council) and Twitter page (@HorshamDC).

11/03/13 Pulborough Post Office
Following the closure of the Post Office back in December, the Post Office has been working in the area to indentify a permanent solution for the provision of services in the local community. In the meantime, a temporary outreach Post Office service will start on Monday 11th March and will operate from Evies Baby Boutique, 64a Lower Street, Pulborough. This service is a temporary arrangement while the work continues towards a longer term solution.

The opening hours will be

Monday : 13.30 to 16.30
Tuesday : 13.30 to 16.30
Wednesday : 09.30 to 16.30
Thursday : 09.30 to 16.30
Friday : Closed

The hosted service will be provided by the subpostmaster from Billingshurst Post Office and the same range of services will continue to be available with the addition of Passport Check and Send facilities. Customers can still collect benefits in cash using their everyday banking services or Post Office card account.

04/12/12 Chalara fraxinea (Ash Disease) in the south east of England
As of 14th November 2012, 14 confirmed outbreak sites in the wider environment have been identified across the south east; in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Surrey, West Sussex and Kent. The Forestry Commisson (FC) website http://www.forestry.gov.uk/chalara includes a map showing the latest confirmed distribution of Chalara across GB. The FC are strongly encouraging all in a position to do so, to be vigilant and report symptoms. The website provides detailed information on these symptoms including a short video. If you suspect infection, please send details including location (ideally a grid reference e.g. TR296637) and symptoms (ideally via digital photo’s), to plant.health@forestry.gsi.gov.uk or phone 08459 33 55 77 (open 8am - 6pm every day). This will allow the report to be followed up by specialists.
